The North American Training Institute, a division of the Minnesota Council on Compulsive Gambling, Inc. has a continuing commitment to training, education and curriculum development. Thus we are offering a new 4-hour course, All Bets Are Off: An Adolescent Compulsive Gambling Prevention & Training Program. This interactive train-the-trainer program will:
examine the extent of underage gambling
describe what adolescents know and need to know about gambling and probabilities
demonstrate an interactive prevention strategy targeting middle school age youth which includes:
focusing on the realities of gambling and the elevated risk for youth
improving critical thinking
demonstrating mathematical odds of winning/losing
identifying problem gambling behaviors.

Depending on location, this course will be facilitated by any of the following NATI faculty members:
Ms. Marilew Barnidge, B.A. worked for 26 years as a Curriculum Specialist and secondary teacher for School District 709.
Ms. Carrie Jacobson-Langseth, B.A.S. (Psy.D. candidate, Minnesota School of Professional Psychology). Ms. Jacobson-Langseth has worked extensively with at-risk youth in a residential setting.
Accreditation and CEU’s
The American Academy of Health Care Providers in the Addictive Disorders, Cambridge, MA, a national certifying body, has accredited this course for 4 CEUs.
In general, NATI curricula and training events meet or exceed the standards established for continuing education required by other certifying organizations.

Included in the cost is the 4-hour training tuition, certificate of completion, and training materials, which include Wanna Bet? Educator’s Guide & Curriculum. This educational kit includes a 20-page facilitator’s guide and curriculum, a 14-minute educational video, Andy’s Story, a cartoon formatted book, Wanna Bet? Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Teen Gambling but Never Thought to Ask, a bibliography and overhead masters. One kit is provided with each registration. Giving Back to the Community: As a result of funding from the Minnesota Legislature, NATI is able to provide partial scholarships (for Minnesota residents only) for this training course and educational kit. For this, we are asking scholarship recipients to give back to the community by providing educational presentations to youth within your community. Further information will be provided the day of the course.
