Course Overview

The intensive 60 hours of training provided in PHASE I & II is designed to provide specific knowledge and advanced professional understanding which will contribute to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of compulsive gamblers.

Course Information

PHASE I (30 hours) & II (30 hours) is a sequential course, taught by the most experienced instructors in North America, all of whom are practicing clinicians.

In this course you will:

Interact with expert faculty who will provide clinical expertise and practical treatment strategies.

Learn about the etiology and progression of the compulsive gambling disorder.

Become well grounded in theory.

Develop treatment plans from audio and video case presentations.

Practice clinical skills in simulated counseling sessions.

National & Educational Accreditation

The American Academy of Health Care Providers in the Addictive Disorders, Cambridge, MA (a national certification organization) has approved this 60-hour course as one required component of national certification. Upon completion of PHASE I & II, for a fee, you may apply for graduate or undergraduate credits in Behavioral Science from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, School of Medicine, BhSC 5501. In general, this curriculum meets or exceeds the standards established for continuing education required by other national certifying organizations.

Cost and Registration:

The cost of the 60-hour course is $1,500 (U.S.) or $750/30 hours or $375/15 hours. This course is sequential, but it may be attended in 2 or 4 day segments.

Space is limited. Purchase orders are accepted, but payment in full is required by the first day of the seminar. Confirmation and additional detailed information will be mailed to you upon receipt of your registration. Group rates are available.

If you cancel at least 10 business days prior to the seminar, we will refund your entire payment, or apply your payment to a future course. Registrations canceled less than 10 business days prior to the seminar are subject to a 25% cancellation fee. You may substitute a co-worker in your place. No-shows are subject to the full registration fee.

Scholarships for Minnesota Residents

Scholarships for the 60 hour course, Counseling the Compulsive Gambler: PHASE I & II are available. The scholarship covers 65% of the course tuition and is based on the following criteria:

*Applicants must be qualified as a mental health professional (MS. section 245.462, sub. 18), mental health practitioner (sub. 17), chemical dependency counselor or licensed educator.

*Priority will be given to those who practice in under-served parts of the state including the southwest, northeast and far north.

*Priority will be given to those whose current practice or job includes work with youth.

*Applicants must be able to apply this training in their current practice or job.
